Half Way Point

I can’t believe January is half over!  I had to start out this post by working on a post over at 750words.com.  It’s a great way to brain dump, establish priorities, and get some thoughts down on “paper.”  Here are a few things I noticed about the month so far.

1. I put a lot of time, effort, thought, and struggle into work during the 9 working days so far this month.  I did a lot of complaining, but most of it wasn’t without pretty good reason.  The takeaway however, was that I came up with a solution to fix the majority of the problems I was experiencing.  I’m thankful, humbled, and encouraged by the change in direction.

2. I forgot how much I enjoy music.  I have a pretty great collection available to me, and I don’t really have an excuse for not having it playing more often.  I’m going to work on this during the rest of this month.

3. I need to come up with a better way of keeping my thoughts, to-do lists, ideas, and life stuff organized and accessible.  I have Evernote, and I really love it, but I’m not doing a very good job of getting things into it on a daily basis.  I think part of the problem is that I love hand writing lists.  I love to scribble down “reminders” on pieces of paper, but they quickly become “non-reminders” because I never give myself enough information to actually remember what I was trying to remember.  I also typically lose the paper and find it after its lost its relevance.  This is a problem I must find a solution for before the end of the month.

4. I have a new appreciation for living in the moment.  This is part of living with abundance, but it also has a lot to do with not thinking ahead or doing too much planning.  It’s pretty easy for me to make connections and look ahead, but I’m working really hard not to do that in my personal life right now.  I’m happy exactly where I am right now and there is no need for me to jump too far into the future.

5. Scrapbooking makes me really happy.  I already knew that, but getting started with Yesterday & Today over at Big Picture Classes has started to make a big difference.  I’m embracing imperfection and I’m telling my stories.  This is really important to me and it’s really fueling me personally.

One More Thing…

I had a pretty terrific weekend.  Caught up on sleep, had a great time with friends, laughed enthusiastically at the Pittsburgh Cabaret Theater’s production of Triple Espresso, and worked on my first layout for my Yesterday & Today scrapbooking class.  I’m really looking forward to another great week in English.  Definitely an abundant weekend.

December 7th

My December 7th page is actually an envelope lined with sticker snowflakes on the inside.  After today, it now contains a letter I wrote to myself.  The idea is that next year, on December 7th, I’ll not only open and read this letter, but respond to it in a 2011 edition.  I wrote to myself very honestly, asking questions about my future, commenting on my present, and asking questions on what will be my past very soon.  I hope that next year I’ll remember some details that would have otherwise been forgotten and feel encouraged by my progress.

The front of the envelope has today’s date and a portion of my to-do list for the day/week/month.  Honestly, if I checked everything off the list by the end of this week, I’d have a much nicer holiday season.  My goal really is to enjoy this Christmas season, so I’m really looking to check things off this list as quickly as possible!  I was really thankful for a simple and heartfelt December 7th page.  And while I work to catch up on Days 1-4 and 6, I’m going to try to stay current for the rest of this month.  Hope you’re encouraged to jump in where you are and document your December 7th!

December 1st

This December Daily project is amazingly fun and fulfilling, but I’m behind already.  What else is new?  But I’m a “good” behind, meaning that many special people and fun activities have been filling my days, keeping me from completing my pages.  The reason for my tardiness actually makes me really happy.  Without people and activities, I’d have no stories to put into my album.  So here’s Day 1… it turned out just as I’d hoped it would!

Nouns of November Project

My Nouns of November project is a mini scrapbooking project I’m making to connect my online Gratitude Journal to my physical scrapbooking gratitude project.  I’m looking at the People, Places, Things, and Ideas that I’m most thankful for on a day to day basis.  I’m going to use some of the journaling from my blog as the journaling in the mini book.  When I finish the project, I’ll post the entire thing, but in the meantime, a sneak peek.
