A Little Bit About Me

My name is eryn and this is my blog, eryn says. . .

A line I often use to describe myself is this, “I am a practical, moderate, realist and trying to figure out exactly what that means.”  Why do I love that phrase?  Because it really describes so much about me with so few words.

To begin, I’m practical.  I have a hard time buying frivolous gifts, I don’t like wasting time, and I take life pretty seriously (though I never hesitate to laugh at myself).

I am a moderate.  I don’t like extreme sports, extreme politics, and generally, try to interact with extreme people as little as possible.  I look to compromise as often as I can, realize I won’t be happy all the time, and look for a middle ground in everything.

And finally, I’m a realist.  I am well centered and have come to the realization that life is not a fairytale.  I’m realistic about what I can expect from others and from myself.

And what does that all mean?  It means I try to be a good friend who gives solid advice, but sometimes I’m too intense.  It means I am looking to love someone deeply, but sometimes I pick the wrong guy.  It means that I work hard at my job, but sometimes I try to take on too much.  It means I really have very little figured out.

But the phrase gives me good questions to ask myself when I hit roadblocks in my daily life.  Is it practical (or is it crazy talk)?  It it moderate (or do I sound like an extreme person)?  It it realistic (or are elephants flying)?

This blog is about my life, the people I love, and the things I enjoy doing.  It’s a little bit crafty because I love to scrapbook.  It’s a little bit wordy because I love to talk (and type).  And mostly, it’s a really good reflection of who I am on any given day, what I care about at the moment, and where I hope my life is heading.
